I experienced one of life’s milestones this weekend; my boyfriend moved in! (Insert huge smile here). This is the first, and hopefully, the only time, that I have moved in with a boyfriend. Naturally, I was nervous about the move. Instinctually, one of my initial concerns was that he would mess with my decor. How girlie of me, right? Luckily, I have planned accordingly. When considering some of my home decor purchases, I thought ahead. I considered if certain patterns were gender neutral and if Nick were to move in, would he consider them “guy worthy”. It may seem shallow but how upsetting would it be if your man trumps your expensive, floral duvet with his neutral one? It wouldn’t be ideal, so thinking ahead can keep everyone happy (which is very important).
Having said that, there are some gender neutral palettes in that can appeal to both you and your man. Have you ever considered adding some menswear flare to your decor?

Menswear fabrics and style are attractive, sharp and relatable to everyone. To help create a more masculine feel in the house, consider some of these fabrics to make your man feel at home.
Plaid – Just like an old shirt, what guy doesn’t like the idea of plaid in a room? Try to stick with more classic plaid combinations to stay away from a dated look. We don’t want your space to start to look like a hunting lodge.

Pinstripe – To create a more tailored look, consider using a pinstripe pattern. This could easy be used on the walls, duvet covers, throw cushions or as upholstery on any accent piece. Nothing says sophistication like a pinstripe suit.

Houndstooth – Often seen in women’s fashion as well, houndstooth can be versatile for both sexes. Area rugs are a big hit with this pattern. It is a graphic, yet classic!

Leather – Leather is a material most men gravitate to. A worn leather chair is as appealing as a cold beer on a Friday afternoon. Any man can appreciate a touch of leather in an entertainment space. Consider a tufted ottoman, chair or even a leather headboard for the bedroom.
