Phew. I am back. I apologize for being gone so long. Not only did I move (!!!) and endure a fabulous christmas holiday season, but I also went on vacation with my family! I enjoyed a world where paint cans were replaced with Long Island Iced Teas, sand instead of saw dust and sun instead of snow! In lieu of my vacation, and continually being inspired by my travel saavy, design friend Tania and her blog, Passport to Design, I thought I would share how life really does imitate art. Photos in this blog were taken on my trip down to the Eastern Caribbean by photographer/artist, Hamilton Holmes. Design from all over the world can make way in your space without it being cliche or tacky.

Why can’t life always be a beach, right?

Thanks for the shout-out, Miss Reno! Glad you had a nice break away from work, saw dust and blogging 🙂 But back to reality now! I have been drowning in design reality over here in Panama, but at least it's sunny 😉 LOL
I love the space with the driftwood coffee table and the MCM-style sofa. I want to be there right now.

I am so glad Andrea! It's hard to achieve a themed room without coming off as tacky. I think these are a great starting point to see that it IS possible to get the beach feel without having a room filled with sand and shells 🙂

If/when I blog about my new arm chair, I'll have to send you a link of the pictures… We have mostly incorporated shades of blues, tans, and browns. It seems to be coming together well so far, without a shell in sight! 🙂

Hey Andrea…I tried to post on your blog but it didn't work for some reason…this is what I thought of you living room….
Well done Andrea! The chair really helps add a twist to the otherwise dark furniture! And linen drapes are my favourite right now, especially to keep things light and airy. One thought is perhaps adding an accent wall of paint. I am thinking a blue colour to marry the patterns on the chair with the rest of the room. Consider it 🙂
Glad that the posts helped inspire you! Keep reading for more inspiration 🙂

Thanks for checking it out! I agree with you about the chair. Our dark couch takes away from that "light & breezy" feel a bit, but hopefully the arm chair & light(er) pillows help break that up. I'm hoping we someday (sooner than later) upgrade to something a bit lighter in color…this isn't my favorite now, but it's all we got! And once we move to Maryland I have every intention of throwing some paint up on the walls! What shade of blue are you thinking? Like a grey-ish blue maybe? Choosing the right shade is always where I get stuck when I try to brain storm!
krista@kmsalterdesign.com says
Hey Andrea! I think a grey ish blue is exactly right. It's hard to pick a colour from your photos, but I would suggest something more on the blue-er side (not like baby blue, icy blue)…I am posting a "blue" post soon. Stay tuned for it!

Awesome, can't wait!

I intended to put you this little bit of note to finally say thank you again on your fantastic pointers you've discussed on this site. This is incredibly generous of people like you to grant without restraint what a number of us would've advertised for an electronic book to earn some bucks for their own end, specifically seeing that you could have done it in case you decided. Those good ideas additionally served to become a good way to be sure that the rest have similar keenness the same as my personal own to know a great deal more with respect to this problem. I believe there are some more fun situations ahead for individuals who looked over your site.
