It’s no secret that designers love to play around with texture and pattern when picking fabrics for each room. Fabric companies make it effortless these days as they create coordinate fabrics (“families”) to allow creativity with upholstered pieces, accessories and draperies.
One designer look that popular is coordinating a different fabric on the back side of a chair, complimenting the front side fabric. Take note on this Pier One chair that I saw in Florida this winter that I posted on my Instagram account.

I love that the furniture companies have caught on to this trend. It creates a more playful and dimensional feel to the furniture piece, often allowing the curves and lines of the piece stand out.
I was perusing the One Kings Lane site recently and I came across a chair I fell in love with. (P.S. If you haven’t heard of One Kings Lane, you are missing out on some great inspiration and sales. They have great pop up sales where you can get a steal of a deal. A note to Canadians: they do not ship to Canada yet but I am hoping this will change soon!) This chair is the perfect example of “two faced chair” (typically, know as a two toned chair, but I think my term is catchier!). It has fabrics that compliment each other, with a floral on the back side and small polka dots on the front. Because of the change in fabrics, you will notice the detail in the arms and the shape of the butterfly wing. And isn’t it a perfect pop of colour? I would consider this a statement chair because of the colour choice. If you wanted a similar look but more subdued, choose a more neutral palette.
