With the onset of winter approaching, it was appropriate for my family to head south for a few days to not only enjoy some togetherness but also the warm weather. The essence of the island living gives me nostalgia of days past when I spent months chasing the sun around the world, from Canada to Australia. What a brilliant year that was. I digress…
Many moons ago, my first visit to the Sydney Opera House on Australia Day. |
Naples is known for it’s wonderful climate, being near at the tip of the Gulf coast in Florida and also for it’s upscale living, where many seem to retire and never leave. Pictured below is the rental house we had the pleasure to inhabit for 5 days. It was a brand new build in an older community that truly embraced the beach house feel. I am not sure who the designer was on this place, but I have to say, a job well done!
I was pleasantly surprised by the space. I was expecting it to be done in a typical Floridian aesthetic (think Golden Girls!). Quite the opposite was true. It was more refined and more, dare I say, Canadian? It reminded me of a beach cottage (remember this post?). Similar choices of trims, colour schemes and treatments. Perhaps our design techniques are becoming more universal due to social media sites and exposure? It’s quite possible.

Beautiful space! Love the wood ceilings and the floors, too. Looks like a great place to spend time with family.
