Yep, I am still talking about kitchens. But not to worry, the kitchen themed month is almost over, so bear with me! Today’s topic…kitchen sinks.
Are you stuck on what kitchen sink to buy? Aside from having a stylish looking one, above all, it needs to be functional. After years of working with clients and plumbing experts, I have come up with a list of dos and don’ts on how to score a great sink for your kitchen…
- DO get two equal sinks if possible. One and a half is sufficient as well, but 2 full sinks works best for more than one cook in the kitchen.

- DON’T buy (or try to avoid) a large sink with only one bowl. It’s takes a lot of water to fill and is also inconvenient while cooking. Where do you dump out your pasta water if the whole sink is filled with dish water…right?

- DO buy a heavier gauge sink if you are going with stainless steel. Shoot for the lowest gauge possible to avoid future scratching.
16 gauge is usually great!
- DON’T buy a zero radius sink if you are a clean freak! The sharp, 90 degree corners look great, but are impossible to clean without a Q-Tip.

- DO try to mix it up! Apron or farmhouse sinks are an interesting way to mix up your style in the kitchen. Available both in porcelain, stainless and cast iron.

- DON’T forget your counter top material. Some sinks are not suitable for all counter top materials, as I mentioned in this post.
- DO wait and purchase your sink once your cabinetry layout is designed. Your cabinet size will then be determined for the size of sink you can buy.
- DO add in an extra sink for a mini bar or prep area! If you have the room, of course.

- DO talk to your local plumbing expert! They can offer you tips and advice that you may have never considered before. They are there to help, so use them. Go to the store. Touch and feel your purchases. This will ensure a product you are happy with!
