If you haven’t seen this latest trend in tile, it may come as a big shock to you. It has been gaining momentum over the past few years and now is becoming quite main stream. It’s the use of encaustic cement tile, or what I refer to as Moroccan tiles (because the patterns seem very Moroccan to me). Encaustic is a technique that involves wax based paint that is applied to an absorbent surface, and then heated to fuse the paint on to the surface. The motifs are typically created on cement tiles (the absorbent material) and custom colours and patterns are then created.
